Prof. Srinivasa Ramanujan (1887–1920)
A Timeless Genius in Number Theory
Prof. Ramanujan is a self-taught mathematician who unlocked some of the deepest mysteries in number theory, infinite series, and continued fractions.
Prof. Harish-Chandra (1923–1983)
A Pioneer in Representation Theory and Harmonic Analysis
Prof. Harish-Chandra known for his profound work on representation theory and Lie groups, his research laid the foundation for much of modern algebra and mathematical physics.
Prof. C. S. Seshadri (1932–2020)
A Luminary of Algebraic Geometry
Prof. Seshadri was a trailblazer in algebraic geometry, with his work on vector bundles and moduli spaces becoming cornerstones of the field. His collaborative work on the Narasimhan-Seshadri theorem created lasting links between algebraic geometry and complex analysis.
Prof. T. R. Ramadas
Blending Geometry with Physics
Prof. Ramadas has made remarkable strides in connecting pure mathematics with theoretical physics. His deep work in algebraic geometry and gauge theory has influenced both mathematical understanding and physical models.
Prof. M. S. Narasimhan (1932–2021)
A Titan of Geometry and Mathematical Thought
Prof. Narasimhan’s legacy is vast and enduring. Best known for the Narasimhan-Seshadri theorem, his work weaves together the worlds of differential geometry, algebraic geometry, and representation theory.

A Modern Voice in Matrix Theory and Functional Analysis
Prof. Bhatia’s contributions to functional analysis, matrix theory, and operator theory have earned him widespread admiration.
The Ganit Ratna Award was instituted in honour of Prof. Ratan Prakash Agarwal—a visionary academician, devoted educator, and passionate advocate of mathematical excellence.
Prof. Agarwal was much more than a scholar; he was a mentor whose influence extended far beyond the classroom. Deeply committed to nurturing mathematical thinking among young minds, he believed that education, when grounded in values and inquiry, has the power to transform lives and reshape society.
His scholarly contributions were both profound and far-reaching. Among them, his acclaimed work “Resonance of Ramanujan’s Mathematics” (Volumes 1, 2 & 3) stands as a testament to his enduring fascination with the genius of Srinivasa Ramanujan, and his lifelong commitment to preserving and amplifying India’s mathematical legacy.

In Memory of Prof. Ratan Prakash Agarwal
The Ganit Ratna Award was instituted in Memory & honour of Prof. Ratan Prakash Agarwal—a visionary academician, devoted educator, and passionate advocate of mathematical excellence.
Prof. Agarwal’s name is synonymous with integrity, intellectual depth, and tireless service to the research community. His ideals continue to guide the Ganit Ratna Award’s mission i.e to honour mathematical excellence with humility, honesty, and purpose.
Instituted by Professor Thakare Gaurav Sanstha (PTGS), the Ganit Ratna Award is a national honour conferred annually upon a Indian citizen for his/her original contributions to the area of mathematics. The award consists of:
Honours one Indian mathematician each year to preserve exclusivity and depth of recognition.
Built on Ethics
Upholds international standards of research integrity and fairness.
Evolving with Vision
Set to transition from honouring excellence in Mathematics to honouring excellence, original contributions in other areas of knowledge such as Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Economics, Arts & Literature etc.
